Bispham Roundabout

Bispham Roundabout

One of the most frequently asked questions on driving lessons is “Will I have to do Bispham Roundabout on my test?” If you are taking your driving test in Blackpool then there is a very good chance your practical driving test will involve Bispham roundabout as many of the driving test routes in Blackpool cover the roundabout. We always ensure all our students have good knowledge of the roundabout. We get many pupils with the misconception that Bispham roundabout is a really difficult roundabout to master. IT REALLY ISN’T! Although the roundabout does appear to have a bad reputation and can look very intimidating, we have some great ways to help get your head around it. Below are some videos which can help you get a better understanding of the roundabout. If you're taking your driving lessons with us then our driving instructors will break each step down of the roundabout and give you plenty of practice until you feel confident enough to do it independently. We also have plenty of other media resources to help you.

We have created these videos to help guide you with the roundabout...

Crash for Cash

Crash for cash

Learner drivers beware

Are you aware that organised gangs are staging car crashes to commit insurance fraud? As part of a national scam worth roughly £400m a year, criminals are orchestrating accidents to make fraudulent insurance claims, the profits of which are used to fund other crimes, including illegal firearms and drug smuggling.

What is a Crash for Cash scam?

  • The Frame – the car in front slams on its brakes for no obvious reason giving the victim no time to prevent a collision.
  • The Blame – they insist that it’s the victim’s fault and give them their name and address and the details of their insurance company, sometimes already written down on a piece of paper.
  • The Claim – A few weeks later (though sometimes longer) the victim will receive a letter from their insurance company notifying them of a grossly exaggerated claim including the costs of a recovery vehicle, car hire and whiplash injuries to passengers, none of which actually happened.

Do you live in one of the ‘Crash for Cash' hotspots?

STAY VIGILANT & MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FRONT & REAR DASHCAMS FITTED!

Our Blackpool driving School educates our learner drivers on how to avoid being a victim of this fraud. There are usually some tell tale signs to look out for. To book your driving lessons with a driving school that offers top quality driving lessons in Blackpool, visit www.goldenmiledriving.com

Driving in bad weather

Driving in Bad Weather

Driving in bad weather can be a dangerous if you’re not careful enough. The combination of cold and wet weather, the roads are becoming wetter and much more icy by the day, demanding full attention of all drivers behind a wheel in these weather conditions.

One other issue we see in winter is strong winds – When driving against strong winds, it's necessary to exercise more caution, as winds can cause debris such as tree branches to fall into the path of your car, and also to keep an eye on other drivers who may find their driving being affected by the wind.
When driving beside larger vehicles you must take caution, lorries or larger vehicles may shelter you from strong winds for a time, so when you emerge into the open, you are likely to experience a strong side wind.

Did you know that you can ask your driving instructor to teach you how to deal with driving in bad weather or ask to have a driving lesson when the weather is bad so you feel much more confident when you pass your driving test.

Driving at Christmas - Don't Drink Drive!

Driving at Christmas - Don't Drink Drive!

Obviously Don't drink Drive - EVER! But we thought this article should go out now due to the temptation being much greater
.So we are well into December now and its that time of year where we eat, drink and be merry. The build up to Christmas on the roads can be quite a challenge, what with bad weather conditions and plenty of people dashing to get those last minute Christmas presents .One of the biggest concerns during the festive season is drink driving.

In the last 50 years road casualties caused by drink driving have fallen dramatically, but in 2013, there were still 240 deaths due to drink driving – accounting for 14% of all road fatalities. By drinking and driving, you risk your life, those of your passengers and others on the road.

THINK! A second drink can double your chance of a fatal collision

Our new campaign targets those who still think it’s okay to have ‘a couple’ of drinks before driving. The campaign shows scenarios where someone might consider having two drinks before driving or choose to drive after drinking and the deadly consequences that can occur.

THINK! Drink Drive 2015 campaign. This campaign targets those who are tempted to drink ‘a couple’ before driving and shows how a second drink could double your chance of being in a fatal collision. However, the safest thing to do is to not drink any alcohol before driving.

Driving School Blackpool

Driving School Blackpool

Choosing a Driving School is probably the most important decision that you will have to make and can be a daunting prospect. A quick look on the internet shows many driving schools in the Blackpool and fylde area  alone so how do you go about identifying the one to suit your needs?
The following sections detail some of the ways that people make their choice.

Personal Recommendations

By far the best method is a recommendation from a friend or relative who can give first hand experience.
Recommendations supply us with approx 80% of our work, this is something that we are very proud of. We like to think that all our students are happy with the service and tuition that they receive and without their referrals we simply could not survive.
Laura from Blackpool says " Golden Mile Driving School have taught all of my family to drive. My Brother, step Mother and myself. We have all passed with very few minors and have been delighted with customer service from this driving school, when my daughter grows up and is able to take driving lessons I wouldn't want her going with anyone else but Golden Mile Driving School"

Qualifications

We advise you only choose a driving instructor who holds a FULL Approved Driving Instructor qualification otherwise known as ADI. You can easily check if your driving instructor is an ADI as they should be displaying a GREEN badge in the windscreen of their car. This green badge means the driving instructor has competed a very stringent qualification process comprising of three rigirous exams and proved to the DVSA that they are fully competent to teach you to drive which meets the requirements of the DVSA.
Be very wary of an instructor with a PINK badge, this means they will still be in the process of qualifying for the final exam. Approximately 75% of these trainees do not go on to qualify and the official pass rate is about 25%
Large national driving schools such as RED, BILL PLANT, and AA tend to use trainees and will generally charge the same rate for their services!
It's important to note that these trainee's have only passed their theory and practical driving tests and will be preparing for the all important test of instructional ability at your expense.
Here at Golden Mile Driver Training we take pride in only supplying FULLY QUALIFIED DRIVING INSTRUCTORS. We also take continued professional development very seriously and keep up to date with the latest teaching methods.

Driving Tuition Quality

A proportion of our work comes from students that have decided to change from their present school due to a variety of reasons e.g.
"My instructor is always talking on the phone instead of looking after me"
"I receive no feedback to enable me to improve"
"We wasted about ten minutes while my instructor had a cigarette"
"They talk more about themselves than about my driving".
These are just some of the reasons that are given to us when talking to new students.
Does this sound familiar?
Here at Golden Mile we feel that we offer a realistic driving lesson fee that enables us to attract the very best instructors in the area, and also invest in continued training to keep us at the top of our profession. We feel very confident that you will stay with us.
In Conclusion
As mentioned previously your choice is a daunting one and your final decision could be a very expensive mistake if you get it wrong.
Whatever your choice, we hope it is the correct one and would like to wish you a positive learning experience along with safe driving for life.

Dealing with Emergency Vehicles

Dealing with Emergency Vehicles

We have all been there! Neee Narrr Neee Narr mixed with the flashing lights can for some learner drivers cause real panic.
blackpool driving lessons

Seeing an emergency vehicle approaching can make any learner driver feel as if they’ve been thrown into a very worrying situation.

Ultimately, it shouldn’t be either. Dealing with an an emergency vehicle – whether it’s a police car, fire engine or ambulance requires  sticking to the law, remaining calm and following the correct driving rules.
It’s important to remember that it is you that's responsible for whatever actions you take regardless of whether an emergency vehicle is approaching or not. This means that you can still be charged for breaking the law in ways that would be unacceptable in all circumstances.
For example, if you jump a red light in order to let an emergency vehicle pass, then you could be fined for the offence. However, it is worth mentioning that if a uniformed officer instructs you to do this then follow their orders.
The Highway Code Rule 219 says :- Emergency and Incident Support vehicles. You should look and listen for ambulances, fire engines, police, doctors or other emergency vehicles using flashing blue, red or green lights and sirens or flashing headlights, or Highways Agency Traffic Officer and Incident Support vehicles using flashing amber lights. When one approaches do not panic. Consider the route of such a vehicle and take appropriate action to let it pass, while complying with all traffic signs. If necessary, pull to the side of the road and stop, but try to avoid stopping before the brow of a hill, a bend or narrow section of road. Do not endanger yourself, other road users or pedestrians and avoid mounting the kerb. Do not brake harshly on approach to a junction or roundabout, as a following vehicle may not have the same view as you.
If an emergency vehicle approaches using flashing blue lights, headlights and/or sirens, follow these tips to help it to get through safely:
1.Look and listen.
2.Signal your intentions by using your indicators or hand signal.
3. Pull in safely and be aware of pedestrians, cyclists and other vehicles around you.
4. Pull in as far as you can.
5. Leave a gap large enough for the emergency vehicle to get through.
6.Stay alert - more vehicles may be coming.
7.Stay calm.
8. If you're a pedestrian, keep off the road!
All vehicles on both sides of the road must slow down or even stop to leave a clear path, but do not endanger other road users. Don't stop in the middle of a junction. (If you're blocking the path of the emergency vehicle, you may have to turn the corner to get out of the way.)
Speak to your driving instructor for more information about dealing with Emergency Vehicles, no doubt if your living in Blackpool near the hospital you would have encountered these situations on your driving lessons, as the Blackpool Driving Test Centre is located very close to the Blackpool Hospital.
